Thy Will Be Done Want to Tour With Justin Bieber

Thy Will Be Done have stayed on the road for over three years. Sure, that's the method that any young band needs to employ in order to make an impact in a fickle, over-saturated metal scene -- but singer J. Costa offered a little insight into the band's method for surviving on the road. Keep in mind, this is a band that has headlined a two-week Japanese tour and has played on a flatbed at a Bar-B-Q Festival in Kentucky.

"It's obviously no proverbial walk in the park, and it's definitely not for everyone," Costa told Noisecreep. "It takes a certain mental discipline as well as conditioning. So if you play music because you love it, and you embrace the opportunity of being able to travel the world and perform your music for others, it makes it a little easier. We're fortunate to have a group of people here that literally think of and treat each other as family. And, yes, we are dysfunctional."

Costa continued, "It's a nomadic lifestyle. You eat what you can, when you can and 99 percent of the time we sleep in the van. That one percent is when a friend/family member makes us stay with them. We expect nothing. Financially, you can't spend more money than you have, like hotels vs. food, repairs. We try to budget for what we absolutely need. What we need is one of those 'manna machines' and maybe a new van."

Thy Will Be Done are doing something right, as Jamey Jasta from Hatebreed released their albums on his Stillborn label and DevilDriver's Dez Fafara personally invited them on the road.

"I still, at times, find it to be a bit surreal," Costa said of the band's good fortune when it comes to having friends in high places. "My father once said something to the effect that 'genuine, hard-working people recognize genuine hard-working people.' I'm not sure if that quote pertains to this situation, but I think it holds truth. We just do what we do because we genuinely love doing it."

When it comes down to it, Costa isn't much different than you or I. "The 'fan boy' in me still geeks when I think about Jamey putting out the record and going to bat for us, or Dez taking us out and looking after us, making sure we've got what we need and more, or even Robb Flynn hitting me up to hang out, digging our record, and/or when he wanted us as direct support on Machine Head's only headlining show of 2009. Man, I can't begin to tell you how that makes all of us feel! Maybe it's good karma, who knows."

'In Ancient of Days' is out now, but the band continues writing. "There's an ancient Chinese proverb that says, 'When planning for a year, plant corn. When planning for a decade, plant trees. When planning for life, write the heaviest riffs possible.' That's a huge part of what we love about being in a band together," Costa said. "As for touring, we're waiting to confirm some things at the moment. If all goes well, Justin Bieber will be taking us out, that is if he's truly a teen of his word." Bieb, are you listening?
