VH1 Scraps ‘The Osbournes’ Reality Show Reboot

Sadly, The Osbournes will not return for a new season. The iconic celeb-reality program was scheduled for a reboot on VH1, but according to the network, the decision has been made to scrap the project.

When The Osbournes debuted on MTV in 2002, the show’s first season became the channel’s most-viewed series since launching in 1981. It was a true phenomenon, inspiring basically every celeb-reality show that would come after and dominate modern television, for better or worse.

“We are no longer talking to the Osbournes about a series; that’s not going to happen,” Susan Levison, VH1’s Executive Vice President of Original Programming and Production, tells the Hollywood Reporter. “We wish we could have worked it out, but it just didn’t come together for us. The family has been absolutely lovely and we wish them the best. We’d love to figure out a way to work with them at some point in the future.”

Before VH1’s announcement of the shelved Osbournes reboot, Jack Osbourne filed several lawsuits against companies he partially owns, one of which Jack says is attempting to unjustly claim revenue for future episodes of The Osbournes. It’s not currently known whether these legal issues directly contributed to the revival’s cancellation. For more details on those legal issues, click here.

Ozzy Osbourne was looking forward to the new Osbournes season. Ozzy was famously intoxicated for the show’s entire original run from 2002-2005 and was hoping to document his newly sober lifestyle with his family. The scrapped show also leaves daughter Kelly Osbourne without a current gig, as she left Fashion Police shortly after the program returned following death of host Joan Rivers.
