Artist: The Cringe

Song: 'String You Along So Long'

From: New York City, N.Y.

Album: Hiding in Plain Sight

RIYL: Soundgarden, The Who, The Wildhearts

About the song:

"String You Along So Long" is about being lied to. It's the lie that as long as we buy the right stuff and get the right gear, and completely swallow the images rammed down our throats by corporate advertising, everything'll be just sparkly and wonderful. At some point you have to ask where their point of view ends, and your own begins, and that's exactly what they're after: to literally own a big chunk of what you believe are your own personal desires and beliefs. It's a well-oiled machine-which, let's be honest, bankrolls everything-and it keeps the "little people" cowed, pliable and insecure, strung along with false promises, buying into stupid wars and stupider wardrobes. But they can only string you along so long."

- The Cringe lead guitarist James "Roto" Rotondi
