Suicidal Angels

Death thrashers Suicidal Angels have been on the scene since 2001 and are only now signing to Nuclear Blast for 'Sanctify the Darkness,' due out in January. The secret to the band's perseverance and their longevity isn't complicated.

"Actually, there's no secret," vocalist/guitarist Nick Melissourgos told Noisecreep. "You just need to love what you're doing. If you don't feel like doing it, you will always find excuses of what others do wrong against you and situations like these. The only thing that counts when it comes to your music and your band is how much you're in to that, and [what you're willing to] sacrifice or leave behind in order to focus on what fills your inner passion."

The band is definitely part of the wave of thrash revival that has been spinning over the past few years. "I'm really glad to see that thrash is having a comeback, because most of the metalheads thought that thrash music was dead," Melissourgos said. "Nowadays, instead of this, you see thrash metal bands taking over and coming forward from all over the world. Each band with its own style plays thrash in the way it was played in the '80s, adding some personal elements in their music.

"Otherwise, it would be just copies of the great bands of the '80s. Suicidal Angels are playing thrash metal in the way that we want to play it, filtering our influences through our own point of view. We just create music that makes headbanging, and I believe that our place in the modern scene is to make you headbang and mosh like a maniac."

So what's more metal in Nick's humble yet metal opinion? A bullet belt? Metal horns? A leather vest? A denim jacket with patches? "That's tough to decide," he said. "I would say a combination of all these, along with a six pack of beers always with you."
