Stone Sour Drummer Roy Mayorga Suffers Minor Stroke

Following a show in Des Moines, Iowa last week, Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga suffered a minor stroke. On Tuesday (May 17) the band announced that they would be forced to cancel all the remaining dates of their current headlining tour, effective immediately. A statement on the band’s official website reassures fans that Mayorga is “doing great and is expected to make a 100% recovery.” But, in the meantime, all shows are off. Understandably.

This isn’t the first major setback of the tour, however; a month to the day of this latest news, the band announced that bassist Shawn Economaki had “gone home for personal issues.” They’ve been touring with a temporary replacement bassist since then — or, as they put it, “for the time being.

So, with two fallen soldiers, Stone Sour has put a hold to their operations while they allow their fellow bandmates to regroup and recover. For singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root, who are also active members of Slipknot, the latest ordeal had to be especially scary — this same time last year they had to deal with the sudden death of Slipknot’s bassist, Paul Gray.

While both bands have fought valiantly against adversity, Stone Sour isn’t planning on letting it get the best of them. “We apologize to all our fans,” reads their current statement, “and look forward to getting back out on the road, with Roy, in the coming months.”

That’s the spirit!
