Staind will release their seventh album, simply titled 'Staind,' on September 13th. It's also the moody hard rock band's first studio release in three years. The album was produced by Johnny K, known for his work with Disturbed.

Check out the brand new song, 'Eyes Wide Open,' which jumps right in with a ominous, building riff, before vocalist Aaron Lewis, who has reinvented himself as a solo artist with a rural/country tinge, comes roaring in. Only someone as versatile and gifted as Lewis can go from spare, almost fragile and acoustic country songs to a throat-ripper like 'Eyes Wide Open,' which goes for the jugular. Lewis himself even said that it the album is "the heaviest thing we have recorded in a long time. It's definitely one of the heaviest collections of songs that we have put together." Point taken with 'Eyes Wide Open.'

Guitarist Mike Mushok also weighed in, saying, "It's completely different than the last record. It's more of a throwback to where we came from. I definitely think it's fresh. It's a modern-sounding version of a heavy Staind record. It's pretty cool."

Noisecreep agrees. It's a boot to the teeth, just like the one Staind delivered in 1999 with 'Dysfunction.' It's a bummer that longtime drummer Jon Wysocki split just when Staind are revisiting the sounds that brought them the most fervent critical acclaim.
