Carrying on the proud legacy of Pacific Northwest bands such as Metal Church and Forced Entry, Spellcaster formed during early 2009 to prove that traditional heavy metal is alive and well in the USA. After the breakup of their previous band during late 2008 guitarist Cory Boyd and drummer Shad Covert set out to start a faster, heavier group with which to fulfill their musical desires. Over the following months frontman Thomas Adams was added to the fold, followed by bass player Gabe Franco shortly thereafter. In need of a second guitarist to complete their dual-guitar attack, Tyler Loney joined Spellcaster, filling the last piece of the puzzle and completing the band's line-up.

With a Solid lineup, Spellcaster hit the studio in late 2009 to record and self-release their debut three song EP entitled 'Spells of Speed,' catching the attention of Heavy Artillery Records in the process. The EP was reissued with bonus tracks during October 2010 becoming the first installment in the label's now popular "Wax Maniax" demo series of limited edition vinyl and CD demo releases. 'Under the Spell,' the debut full length from Spellcaster, won't hit stores till May 24th, but Noisecreep got its hands on 'Chainsaw Champion,' one of the record's best tracks.

"As far as our lyrics go, we try not to take ourselves too seriously," says Spellcaster vocalist Thomas Adams during a chat with Noisecreep last week. "The album has lyrics that range from a chainsaw wielding serial killer, to intergalactic warfare, to an Egyptian god disguised as a pharaoh who destroys an ancient Egyptian city and all of its inhabitants.

"We are really thrilled with how the album turned out. We didn't have a ton of time to rehearse before recording so I think everyone was a little nervous to see how things were going to turn out, but once we got in the studio again everything meshed really well and I think we were all surprised at how well the album came together," says Adams.

'Under the Spell' will be out on July 12th via Heavy Artillery Records. Order it here.
