Slayer announced two dates in New York and Los Angeles, respectively, this fall and that seemed to be the extent of the band's North American tour plans for 2013. We totally understood, given the tragic death of their guitarist Jeff Hanneman in May of this year. However, the magnetic pull to hit the road is there, as the band has announced a five-week fall tour, following a summer of international gigging.

The tour begins on Oct. 22 in Anchorage, Alaska. It'll be the band's first time playing the region since Oct. 23, 1996, so it's almost 17 years to the day.

This tour coincides with the already announced plans to play at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on Thanksgiving Eve (Nov. 27) and the band's gig at the Hollywood Palladium on Oct. 28, which marks their return after a 25-year absence. Slayer are proving you can go home again with some of these dates. More dates will be announced soon.

Exodus guitarist Gary Holt is continuing to fill in for Hanneman and the band is working on new material. Frontman/bassist Tom Araya and guitarist Kerry King hope to hit the studio before hitting the road.

Gojira and 4Arm will support Slayer on the entire run of dates. Tickets go on sale on Sept. 6.
