Skid Row Return to Stage With Former Dragonforce Frontman ZP Theart on Vocals

Skid Row recently announced a co-headlining date in Connecticut with fellow late ’80s/early ’90s favorites Slaughter, but many fans were wondering who would be singing for the band. Tony Harnell made a surprise exit from the group late last year and the group had not announced his replacement prior to the show. Come Saturday night (Feb. 13) at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, fans learned who would be fronting the group — former Dragonforce vocalist ZP Theart.

The singer worked his way through a number of Skid Row classics, starting the night with “Slave to the Grind,” and later tackling “18 and Life,” “I Remember You” and the closing encore track “Youth Gone Wild.” The set also included a cover of the Ramones‘ “Psycho Therapy.” You can see fan-shot footage of Theart on vocals for “I Remember You” in the player above.

According to Blabbermouth, while Theart did appear with the band, he has not officially been confirmed as the group’s new singer, so Saturday’s appearance could go a long way in helping to make that decision. Theart’s band I Am I supported Skid Row during a 2013 tour of the U.K. and members of I Am I were asked to join Skid Row onstage to help sing the finale during that run.

As for Skid Row, they enjoyed their biggest success with Sebastian Bach on vocals, but have repeatedly expressed that they weren’t interested in a reunion with Bach. Johnny Solinger joined the group in 1999 and fronted the band for a majority of the 2000s, with Harnell replacing him in April of 2015. Harnell’s stint with the band was short, as he announced his exit from the band in late December, stating, “I was not fired from Skid Row. I quit. Being ignored and disrespected isn’t my thing. I had a great time performing with the band and singing so many great songs. I don’t regret a thing!” Apparently, Harnell’s exit came as a surprise to the band, who stated they learned of his exit on Facebook along with everyone else.
