Six Feet Under are returning with a fresh slab of meat and potatoes death metal titled Torment. The record will serve as the successor to 2015's studio effort Crypt of the Devil, with the covers album The Number of the Priest, sandwiched between the two. Out Feb. 24, fans can get a taste of what's to come with the new song "Sacrificial Kill" heard below.

The track starts off with a stunted rhythm and clanking bass tone, quickly diving into familiar territory with eerie hammer-ons reminiscent of Chris Barnes' days in Cannibal Corpse. Returning to the lockstep rhythm, Barnes' signature choking-on-dirt vocals come in with another message of violence to add to the Six Feet Under repertoire. The pace enters mania on the back half of the track, accelerated by pummeling blast beats.

"I've been lucky to have a lot of standout albums in my career. That's only because I've had a great many talented writing partners and musicians to collaborate with," began Barnes. "Our new album, Torment, to me, is one of those albums. Jeff Hughell has provided the flammable material for me to write some explosive lyrics and vocal parts to. I know people always say, 'this is my best album ever', and I won't say that, because everyone has their own favorites, but I do enjoy creating new music, and I feel as though with this one we expressed concisely and to the fullest the duality of our music."

Torment can be pre-ordered at the Metal Blade webstore with a variety of options to choose from, including four limited vinyl colors in addition to the standard black as well as bundles.
