ShipRocked 2014: Day 1 in Photos
While many people have been battling the storms and the frigid weather that comes with January, thousands of hard rock fans opted for sunnier Miami to set sail on the massive and sold out Norwegian Pearl for Shiprocked 2014.
The party began with an incredible performance with Five Finger Death Punch which had the ship actually rocking. Mosh pits broke out during ‘White Knuckles’ and ‘Way of the Fist’ which apparently caused the band to get fined for causing a raucus. A softer moment in their performance was when frontman Ivan Moody dedicated ‘Remember Everything’ to his father who accompanied him on ShipRocked and was in the audience.
Moody also invited a tiny ship rocker ironically named Ocean onstage with them, during their performance of ‘Burn MF.’ When the frontman asked the little one to sing “Burn mother f---er / Burn mother f---er / Burn!” she looked nervous but strongly refused to embrace the favorable profanity that everyone loved to shout. Kudos to her parents.
The day also featured performances on the Deck Stage by soulful brothers Aranda, Halo Method and Nonpoint. Meanwhile, the beautiful indoor Stardust theater played host to several other acts. On the first night In This Moment fans gathered in full costume as big burly men donned blonde wigs and corsets while a few ladies rocked black facepaint and fake dreads. Right after that theatrical performance Three Days Grace also graced the stage at Stardust Theater.
The close quarters of the Headbanger’s Stage played home to an energetic performance by Black Stone Cherry. Butcher Babies also destroyed on the Headbanger’s Stage. Frontwomen Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey were perfect for this stage as their hair flew everywhere while headbanging. Elsewhere, Young Guns, American Fangs and many more rocked out on the Meliti Stage near the front deck of the ship.
With numerous stages spread out across the ship, multiple restaurants and activities to do, there was never a dull moment on the Norwegian Pearl. To think this was only day one!
