Looks like we’ve got an official timeline for when Slipknot will be back in the studio. In a new interview with NME, percussionist / background vocalist Shawn “Clown” Crahan revealed he plans to hit the studio with new Slipknot music in November 2018.

Slipknot took a much deserved break this year, not touching a stage throughout 2017. Corey Taylor kept himself busy with Stone Sour’s Hydrograd album and touring cycle, also releasing his fourth book, America 51. Clown, however, has kept his eye on Slipknot while enjoying his time off, sticking to the formula of making an album and touring for three years before taking two years off.

“I’ll be in the studio in November 2018. There’s a plethora of shit written,” Clown reveals. “I don’t wanna be told by a label when to write, like some fucking Cheerio. I wanna write because I write. I’ve made people so much fucking money – pay for the studio. Give me this engineer, give me this producer. It’s just jamming, but I’ve never heard music like this, that we’re doing right now. I’ll be 50 by the time it comes out. I’ll be touring when I’m 50, they’ll throw me a birthday party! So where I’m at these days, I’m like, ‘Maybe make it the last one.’”

When asked if he was referring to the end of Slipknot, Clown replied, “Who knows? I don’t have to explain myself to anyone. I’m not gonna be like, ‘Farewell tour!’ then come back. Never say those words to fans – you have to come back if you say that. For me it’s like, I’m going to go fishing indefinitely.”

Clown has spoken about his eventual departure from Slipknot before, even speculating that his son could take over for him. We’ll see what happens in the future, but it looks like a 2019 album release is possible for Slipknot. Stay tuned as updates continue to roll in.
