Sepultura Release Lyric Video for Breakneck Song ‘I Am the Enemy’
Brazilian thrash kings Sepultura are inching closer to the release of Machine Messiah, which will bridge the four-year gap from their last record, The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be the Heart. The band has issued a lyric video for "I Am the Enemy," the first single off the forthcoming album.
Clocking in at just over two-and-a-half minutes, the song sees red the whole way through with sliding, thrashy rhythms accented by precision drum fills and nuanced guitar playing. Sepultura squeeze an impressive amount of riffs into the concise cut as vocalist Derrick Green barks through rapid-paced lyrics rooted in existentialism and surrounding societal influences.
"The song 'I Am The Enemy' was one of the last songs we worked on before going to Sweden to record the album, it's really simple and straight forward with a strong influence of the hardcore scene of the 90's," stated guitarist Andreas Kisser.
Continuing, the axeman explained the meaning behind the track, adding, "The lyrics talk about ourselves as human beings with concepts and pre-concepts implanted in our heads through education, religion, the environment and all of our own experiences. We are the problem and the solution, do not blame anything or anyone else but yourself, you are your own enemy. Face yourself, rethink your life and then you'll have a chance to make a better world for yourself."
Sepultura have already hit the stage with "I Am the Enemy" and Kisser closed out his thoughts on the track, exclaiming, "We are playing the song live already and the reaction is being amazing, now you all have the chance to listen to the album version, play it loud!"
Machine Messiah (out Jan. 13) can be pre-ordered at the Nuclear Blast webstore and fans who do so will receive an instant gratification download of the "I Am the Enemy" single. The song can also be purchased individually here.
