In 1994, Bruce Dickinson was enjoying life as a solo artist and made the daring decision to enter an active war zone in Sarajevo, Bosnia to bring a much-needed concert to headbangers in the region. The singer and his band were advised against the trek, but pushed forward anyway and it’s been chronicled in the Scream for Me Sarajevo film, which will be screening at select theaters across America this May.

“We weren’t protected, there was no plan and the bullets were real, but fuck it, we went anyway,” the singer recalled in his autobiography, What Does This Button Do? “The gig was immense, intense and probably the biggest show in the world at that moment for the audience and for us. That the world didn’t really know didn’t matter. It changed the way I viewed life, death and other human beings,” Dickinson continued.

In addition to performance footage, Scream for Me Sarajevo spotlights the grim conditions in the Bosnian city with interviews with concertgoers, the crew and security.
