Ronnie James DioLos Angeles has forever designated May 30 as Ronnie James Dio Day in the city. A city council member made the announcement last weekend at Dio's public memorial. The statement was read aloud by Eddie Trunk, the longtime New York City radio personality and one of the hosts of VH1 Classic's 'That Metal Show.'

In the statement, the councilman said, "Ronnie's charisma on stage was complemented by his compassion offstage." We could not agree more.

The metal community lost Dio on May 16. He died at 67 after enduring a long, hard battle with stomach cancer.

While many Americans are critical of L.A. for its probiotic yogurt-drinking, rollerblading residents, this action redeems any criticisms you may have.
