Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp Welcomes Jon Anderson, Meat Loaf, More

They call it ‘fantasy’ for a reason. Yes‘ Jon Anderson, Meat Loaf, former Kiss guitarist turned solo artist Ace Frehley and a whole slew of other famous musicians are gearing up to teach would-be rockers during the November sessions of the Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp in Los Angeles. The best part is anyone can join in the fun — no real music experience necessary!

“People like doctors, lawyers, congressmen … you never know who is going to turn up,” Anderson says of the past camp participants. “You get them together to play, and you tell the drummer to ‘stop being so noisy!’ or [tell the keyboardist to] ‘turn up!’ or vocals, ‘More harmony!’ That sort of thing. You try to project some stage presence for them. You observe and try to make it work for them.”

Participants determine their length of camp — either three- or five-day sessions. Students undergo super-intensive music classes and eventually work together with other campers to record an original song. Both sessions end with special live performances with their celebrity teachers at historic rock ‘n’ roll venues. There’s even a ‘Rock Legends’ package that includes the camp experience and special golf trip. This November, campers get to rock out at the Whisky A Go-Go right on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles.

The Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp is a luxury vacation experience and priced accordingly. Anderson says the camp is worth every penny.

“You can spend eight grand on a two-week holiday, or you can spend the money for a week, jamming with some of the musicians you adore. You’ll never have the experience again in your life, and you’ll have a DVD at the end of it, memorabilia and new friends.”

Prices vary by camp experience selected, but starts at around $4,000 for the three-day camp experience.
