The world is just one week away from the release of Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, the newest album from legendary Bay Area thrashers Metallica. The group has already been dotting the globe with select performances leading up to the record’s arrival and the next logical step is a world tour in support of the first slab of new music since 2008’s Death Magnetic. Rumors have been flying around that Metallica will play outdoor stadiums in North America, and bassist Robert Trujillo addressed this head on in a new interview.

“True or false? There’s a lot of rumors about a big outdoor stadium tour in America next summer,” asked WAAF‘s Mistress Carrie. “Is it happening or not, Robert?” Trujillo at first played coy, exclaiming, “I hope it’s happening!” He went on, adding, “We have an album, it’s coming out, it’s great, I love it. I think it’s sonically… for me, I think it’s the best sounding Metallica album ever. And we want to play all these songs. We love these songs and we love what we’ve done and want to share it with our friends all over the U.S. and all over the world, so I would say yes.”

This echoes drummer Lars Ulrich‘s farewell to the intimate Webster Hall crowd in New York City at the end of September when he mentioned Metallica would be playing a large outdoor stadium across the river next year. This led many to believe the stickman was indicating Metallica would be stopping by MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which is across the Hudson River.

Hardwired… To Self-Destruct will be out on Nov. 18 through the band’s own Blackened Recordings and can be pre-ordered at the Metallica webstore. Three songs, “Hardwired,” “Moth Into Flame” and “Atlas, Rise!” have all been released and also confirmed the band will be releasing a music video for all 12 songs on their first ever double album.
