Less than a year ago, Rob Zombie claimed that ‘The Lords of Salem’ would be his last horror film “for a really long time,” but luckily for fans of Zombie’s filmography, the musician has jumped back into the genre. Although Rob Zombie has been working on the hockey film ‘Broad Street Bullies,’ one simple act of brainstorming thrust Zombie into horror once again.

In a May 2013 interview with the Phoenix New Times, Zombie’s announced a horror hiatus. “Lords of Salem is my last sort of horror-genre related film for a really long time,” Zombie declared. However, even though Zombie has already put two years of hard work into the unfinished ‘Broad Street Bullies,’ another horror project is beginning to take form.

“I’d been working on this hockey film for over two years,” Zombie tells New Zealand’s 3 News, “it took so much research and work, and I was literally sitting with someone going, ‘You know, I have this other idea…’ And I said the idea and they go, ‘We’ll make that!’ And I put together a one-line pitch, because I didn’t want to go to pitch meetings and do all that. I’d call them on the phone and go, ‘Here’s my idea, blah blah blah,’ and they’re like, ‘We’re in!’ So you slave over something for years and it’s still difficult, and you say some crazy thing off the top of your head and they say ‘Where do we sign?’ And that turned into a weird bidding war. And that became the next film.”

Zombie continues, “I think it’s something fans of the other stuff will like. Probably fans of ‘The Devil’s Rejects’ will enjoy the most. It’s not connected to that film but it’s more on that headspace.”

‘The Lords of Salem’ was unsuccessful at the box office, pulling in only $1.1 million of its $1.5 million budget. However, Zombie has made bank in the past with ‘House of 1,000 Corpses,’ ‘The Devil’s Rejects’ and his ‘Halloween’ remakes.
