Rise Against Reveal Track Listing for ‘Long Forgotten Songs: B-Sides + Covers 2000 – 2013′

Rise Against have revealed the track listing and opened up the pre-order for their odds and sods release ‘Long Forgotten Songs: B-Sides & Covers 2000 – 2013.’

Limited and exclusive fan bundles are available for your perusal here. The album is out Sept. 10 via the punk rock band’s longtime label Interscope. The set will include material from the entirety of Rise Against’s career which did not end up on any studio albums. That includes songs they crafted before they signed to Fat Wreck Chords.

Frontman Tim McIlrath was quick to note that these tracks are not throwaways, fillers or leftovers that weren’t up to snuff and therefore never found homes on previous Rise Against albums. That’s the furthest thing from the truth.

He pointed out that the songs that actually are subpar are the ones the band won’t release or were abandoned before they even made it to full song status.

As a result, all these tracks –there are 26 of ‘em—are worthy of your ears.

“The songs on this record are different versions of existing Rise Against songs, covers, or originals that never made it on a record for some reason,” said McIlrath. “Common wisdom tells us that the reason is that a B-side is just a song not good enough to make the cut. While I think that logic can apply sometimes, I think it’s short-sighted.”

He continued, “See, the songs that really aren’t good enough, you’ll never hear. They never make it outside of our practice space. If we finish a song, bring it to the studio, write lyrics, and see it to fruition, then it becomes one of the children that make up a family of songs. If we weren’t proud of it, it would have been scrapped along the way.”

McIlrath finished, “We have fast songs and slow songs and political songs. We have personal songs and dark songs and positive songs. We aim for balance on each record. Every song is like one of our children; some just get orphaned. The songs are the lost children of Rise Against.”

Lost but thankfully found by fans.
