Remembering Dimebag Darrell: FFDP’s Zoltan Bathory Won Over by Pantera Live Show

Dec. 8, 2014 marks the 10th anniversary of Pantera / Damageplan guitarist ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott‘s tragic death. In remembrance of the guitar great, we’ve spoken to rock and metal’s greatest musicians to gather stories and testimonies of admiration towards the immortal shredder.

In the clip above, Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Zoltan Bathory reflects on his introduction to Pantera and reveals that it took some winning over before he was a fan. Bathory says he always preferred the two guitar attack of most European metal bands and it wasn’t until catching Pantera play live that it fully connected with him.

“I just could not believe what I was looking at,” says Bathory of his first Pantera concert experience. “It literally changed the reaction for me cause I had never seen anything like it — the power of the show and the grooves and how the whole band was operating was insane and Dime in particularly. This guy is just jumping off of some speaker and in mid-flight he changes a guitar pick up.”

Bathory says Pantera changed his entire musical understanding and adds that Five Finger Death Punch is a combination of what he felt it would be if European metal and what he new from Pantera were connected. Check out more of the interview in the video above and stay tuned as we reveal more Remembering Dimebag Darrell videos leading up to the 10th anniversary of Dime’s passing.
