Metal and Satan aren't the only two cultural phenomenons that go hand in hand. The porn world is often intricately connected to heavy metal and its icons. Porn director Craven Moorehead is a fixture on the L.A. metal scene and has branched out beyond skin flicks in his entertainment endeavors.

"I live, eat, sleep and s--- metal," Moorehead, who has been shooting and directing all of porn legend Peter North's films for the past decade, told Noisecreep. "Well maybe not s--- metal, since that would hurt. I've been playing guitar since I was a kid and received three scholarships out of high school for my fretboard skills." Before entering the adult industry, the director was in a death metal band that opened for legends like Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel. But the director has artistically melded metal and porn in 'Grub Girl,' which is his fave of all the films he's lensed.

"It's the film adaptation of Glenn Danzig's 'Verotik' comic book," Moorehead said. "I worked closely with Glenn, who was my childhood idol. It sold a s---load and got us nominated for Best Video of the Year at the 2006 Las Vegas Porn Awards." The film was banned in 13 states due to controversial content. Moorehead and Danzig participated in a promotional signing at Tower Records.

"It was the same Tower Records that I waited outside for an autograph from him when I was a kid," Moorehead recalled. "That's when I finally felt like I made it. Glenn had enough confidence in me and my filming ability that he had me film his latest music video, 'Across the Killing Floor,' from 'The Lost Tracks of Danzig.'" The duo traversed the country filming live sets and have recently shot a "f---ed up short horror movie" titled 'She Only Likes Men.'

Moorehead is also in a band dubbed the Shift, which pays homage to the Misfits. "The music will make girls want to sleep with you," he said. Other metallic Moorehead projects in the pipeline include Rock Star Confections, which is scheduled to launch on Halloween 2009. "You're going to get to see your favorite bands in a whole new light," he promised. He's also developing a reality show called -- natch -- 'Pound Town USA,' which will look at the commingling of metal, porn and mixed martial arts. "If that's not an awesome catastrophe waiting to happen then I don't know what is," he said.

As for why metal and porn are so infinitely connected, Moorehead offered his theory, saying, "Just listen to 'Appetite for Destruction.' Metal just screams for hot chicks, and porn has an abundance of those. I'd love to use more metal in my movies, but licensing is a b----. I'd love to record my own music or get bands to give me exclusive songs. I will always be a fan until the day I die.'
