When Philip H. Anselmo comes to town, you never want him to leave and fans didn’t want to leave Gramercy Theater. Anselmo and the Illegals played a packed house in New York City last week with support from Warbeast and Author & Punisher.

With numerous "Phil!" chants throughout the night, the frontman graced the stage with sincerity and humor that he could only bring. With his witty banter and interaction with fans between songs or busting his head open with the mic, he had fans in the palm of his hands.

The band as a whole were solid throughout the set as guitarist Marti Montazeri unleashed some blistering riffage, while Stephen Taylor held down the bass lines and drummer Joey Gonzalez provided the pummeling percussion. Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals are out on the road to promote their new record ‘Walk Through Exits Only,' but they opened the playlist to more than just their debut disc.

The group churned out Agnostic Front’s ‘United & Strong’ a snippet of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Dazed and Confused’and Arson Anthem’s ‘Wrecked Like Clockwork.’  Fans lost their minds and opened up some of the most violent pits Gramercy Theater could handle when Anselmo and the Illegals played Pantera’s ‘Domination’ and ‘Primal Concrete Sledge.’

Whether it’s for the Metal Masters clinics, with Down or with the Illegals, Philip H. Anselmo will always have a home in New York and when he pulls out those Pantera anthems, don’t expect us to leave the venue anytime soon.

Warbeast brought the old school thrash metal which New York fans were definitely banging their heads to. The band is currently touring in promotion of their new record ‘Destroy’ and they definitely destroyed the stage when they played crushing new tracks  ‘Egotistical Bastard,’ ‘Nightmares in the Sky,’ ‘Warbeast,’ and ‘Blood Moon.’

Industrial doom and drone act Author & Punisher, also known as Tristan Shone, opened up the show and gave the crowd something different. The electronic, metal mad scientist captured fans interest while others looked in curiosity and somewhat confusion. What Shone is doing with music is an acquired taste but he is also separating himself from a lot of what tends to repeat itself in metal. Go here for remaining dates on where you can see all of these artists on tour.
