Overkill"Wow, look how many Overkill songs came up," marvels Overkill guitarist Derek 'The Skull' Tailer, about his iPod random shuffle list. "Looks like I was cheating, huh? Nope, that's the list."

OK, but maybe when you're boss is Bobby 'Blitz' Ellsworth, there's some rule about having to maintain a certain percentage of Overkill songs in your audio collection. And maybe being in the band is like being in the military, where there are rigorous inspections of your stuff at a moment's notice.

Aside from the 25 percent of Overkill songs on Tailer's iPod list, the guitarist sports an abundance of other kinds of metal, including classic (Black Sabbath), commercial (Twisted Sister) nu-metal (Korn) and, of course, thrash (Pantera, Megadeth, Metallica). And for the sake of diversity, there's the punk savagery of Dead Kennedys ('Your Emotion,') the conceptual psychedelia of Pink Floyd ('Another Brick in the Wall (Pt. 1),' 'The Trial') and the humor of the Jerky Boys ('Roofing'). The only somewhat embarrassing thing – aside from all that Overkill (sure, they kick ass, but Tailer's in the band, for heaven's sake) – is Journey's 'Any Way You Want It.'

While Tailer will never deny his love for metal, he concedes that he's lucky the only guilty pleasure that popped up is Journey. "There is tons of stuff on my iPod that would most likely make John Q. Public raise one eyebrow and say, 'Really?'" Tailer tells Noisecreep. "Along with the metal, there is some '70s funk, punk and hardcore, a vast amount of Stevie Ray Vaughan and other guitar legends, some swing, rockabilly, and I even have John C. Reilly and Mark Wahlberg singing 'Feel the Heat,' which is always good for a laugh or two."

And that doesn't even bring Tailer's guiltiest pleasure to the surface. "That would have to be 'Tell Me Something Good' by Rufus and Chaka Khan," he says without a hint of embarrassment. "Yup, I just love that bass line, the talk-box 'answers' and those tasty little bluesy licks."
