Over the 4th of July weekend - perhaps in an effort to bury the news while most of America was soaking up the sun and celebrating Independence Day, Alaska governor and 2008 Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin announced that she would be resigning from her post, effective July 26, 2009, and that she would not be seeking re-election. While Palin was often the target of liberal political pundits, some women aligned with her over her gender, while others felt she set the women's movement back due to her staunchly conservative political views. We couldn't think of anyone better to ask about Palin's resignation than Otep, who has consistently demonstrated strong political opinions.

"After all the bumbles and rumbles of her inane hysterics on the campaign trail about 'not waving the white flag' and how tough this gun-loving, big game huntress a la hockey mom was touted to be, she reveals herself to be exactly what most of us already knew: a post turtle," Otep told Noisecreep. A post turtle?

Otep further elaborated on that curious phrase, saying, "When you're driving down a country road and you see a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle. You know she didn't get up there by herself and she doesn't belong up there and she doesn't know what to do while she's up there. You just wonder what kind of dumb a-- put her up there to begin with."

One thing's for sure, though. The post turtle is coming down and Otep continues to ascend. Her new album, 'Smash the Control Machine.' is due out on Victory this August.
