Nothing, ‘The Rites of Love and Death’ (SONG PREMIERE)

A389 Records

Artist: Nothing
From: Philadelphia, Pa.
Song: “The Rites of Love and Death”
Album: Downward Years to Come 12″
RIYL: Joy Division, Anne, Jesu

About the song:

“When we were writing ‘The Rites of Love And Death,’ it was originally meant to be electric. We were playing acoustics trying to nail down the vocal melody so we slowed it down a bunch. It sounded too right for us to try and mess with it, so we went with a nice warm hollow body for the lead and called it a day. It was really easy to write lyrically as the song has such a sad undertone to it and I was currently reading Shinchosha, a short story written by Yukio Mishima. It may come off a bit suicidal, but it’s more about the nature of letting go of things due to the fascination and curiosity of what may happen next.”

Nothing features members of Horror Show, a Philadelphia hardcore band. Downward Years to Come, Nothing’s new 12″ EP, will be released this month via A389 Recordings, a label known more for its metal, punk and metal releases than the atmospheric shoegaze that Nothing specialize in.
