Neurectomy

"Who here likes dolphins?" asked Neurectomy frontman Joe Ippolito. The night was young at New York City's Lit Lounge on May 3. The three-band bill dropped to a two-band bill when Surrounded by Teeth canceled. But, this writer didn't care. I was there for the brutal death, dual guitar slaying of Queens' Neurectomy.

"Yeah!" someone replied to the frontman's inquiry. "This song's about f---ing dolphins. It's for people like you!" Ippolito shot back. The song -- 'Killed by Dolphin Ejaculation' -- was inspired by the salty sea and people who practice zoophilia. This band has all the right stuff for a brutal and technical death metal band: vomiting vocals, finger tapping and a dark sense of humor.

NeurectomyListening to these guys was like listening to Psyopus' 'Odd Senses' colliding in a head on tractor trailer collision with Devourment's 'Molesting the Decapitated' (sans the breakdowns, though). I would have never guessed that their performance at Lit was only their fifth show -- that makes them super new.

The next song they played was called 'Two Zombies One Cup,' which was obviously inspired by the viral video called 'Two Girls One Cup.' Ippolito didn't bother explaining what the video was about -- and neither will I. But I will say it's the perfect subject matter for a gory death metal band.

The band -- which includes two guitarists (Ippolito and Kris Hibbitt) and one drummer (Santino Bellati) -- is searching for a bassist. Interested parties can contact the band at neurectomy@gmail.com. In the meantime, the trio will be tracking songs for an EP. I look forward to seeing these guys at a small death fest in the near future.
