Myrath Add Tunisian Flair to Their Brand of Progressive Metal

Tunis-Tunisia is a small country on the Mediterranean coast that sounds like a really great place to vacation to, but it doesn't exactly conjure up visions of heavy metal glory. But don't tell Myrath that. The progressive power metal act call the idyllic country home and have been busy cranking out high-quality material for the past few years.

Myrath got their start playing Death covers for the first two years of their existence in the early '00s before tacking Symphony X songs exclusively. The years playing cover tunes helped the group hone their performance and stage chops and in 2005 they finally released 'Double Face,' a self-produced demo which while was still rusty around the edges, showed that Myrath was a band to keep any eye on. That potential was realized on their next two albums – 2007's 'Hope' and 2010's 'Desert Call – which found the progsters infusing Tunisian-inspired melodies into their songwriting.

Next month Myrath will be releasing 'Tales of the Sands,' their third and finest album yet. Noisecreep got its hands on 'Merciless Times,' a dazzling track from the record.

"The song is the perfect example of the unique style we want to become the Myrath trademark. It has a blend of the heavier side of prog and power metal with the soulful melodies of Oriental music enhanced with the exoticness of traditional Tunisian violins and percussion," says the band.

Myrath's 'Tales of the Sands' will be released on October 11th via Nightmare Records.
