Atlanta psych rock band MonstrO will release their self-titled debut via Vagrant Records on September 6th and will follow the release with a tour with Kyuss Lives! The record was recorded in the span of two weeks with Alice in Chains singer William DuVall manning the boards. The band features guitarist Juan Montoya [ex-Torche], bassist Kyle Sanders [ex-Bloodsimple], drummer Bevan Davies [ex-Bloodsimple, Danzig] and vocalist and guitarist Charlie Suarez.

Despite cranking out a record in an incredibly short period of time, Sanders told Noisecreep that "the whole process was a smooth and stress-free one. We did it in 14 days, but broke it up into three sessions. That gave everyone time to reflect and come back in fresh with new ideas rather than the usual 'go go go' for 12 hours a day until you can't think straight. It was pretty much fueled by tortilla chips, hummus and red wine." Ah, the breakfast of musical champions.

Sanders also said that the band holed up on purpose, "tucked away in a groovy little studio in downtown Atlanta and kept the visitors to a minimum. Everyone was focused and prepared to make the best record we could. Other than entertainment from the hookers and ranting lunatics on the corner, we were pretty much consumed in the record."

Sanders also contends that DuVall was the best person for the producer gig. "William was without a doubt the man for the job and was the fifth member for a few weeks," he said. "That dude was dancin' the whole time! He was picking up instruments, strumming tamburas and getting down the whole time. One of the best dudes you'll meet out there."

Sanders, who "jokingly" claims he can make hot sauce, perform wedding ceremonies and is "mastering the ability to perform hypnosis on anyone or anything who will let me," also said that the "spacey" quality of Monstro comes from the obvious sources. "Well Juan is the spacey element of the band so there's you're answer," Sanders said. "Actually we're all into the spacey dreamy type stuff so it seemed to come naturally. I live deep in the woods and have been concocting a magic pixie dust made from pig bladders. I dosed the band just before we went in to record and [I'll be] damned if it didn't work beyond anyone's expectations." Hmm, Noisecreep never knew that pig bladders could be an ingredient of a real or imagined pixie dust recipe. Hey, whatever works, as long as the music's good!

MonstrO will support Kyuss Lives! and The Sword this Fall. Sanders also says that he's bringing his "badass portable grill" on the road, so maybe he can cook up some eats for fans. As long as there's no sprinkling of pixie dust, actual or faux.
