Ozzy Osbourne has had the pleasure of playing with some of the best musicians in the world throughout his career. Back in 1989, Ozzy enlisted bassist Mike Inez after he auditioned and won the spot. Inez would later go onto contribute to No More Tears, and would play in the band for several years before eventually joining Alice In Chains after Mike Starr left the band. Recently, Inez spoke about the turning point in his career and the conversation he had with Ozzy about his departure.

In an interview with The Rich Eisen Show (and transcribed by Ultimate Guitar) Inez recounted the scenario:

“We were mixing the double live album [1993’s ‘Live & Loud’] we did with Ozzy; we’re up in Reno, Nevada in the snow. It was a nice sunny day – snowy day.

“I say ‘Ozzy, I’ve gotta talk with you.’

“So we walked outside and I said, ‘Alice in Chains guys want me to go to Europe.’

“And then he looks me right in the eye and says, ‘If you don’t go we have to go to the hospital.’

“I said, ‘Why?’ And he said, ‘Because it’s gonna take them about a week to get my foot out of your ass!’

“He really was pushing for it. He said, ‘You really seem to get along with those guys great. They are a fantastic band.’

“We still have the great relationship with Ozzy to this day, and his family.”

It’s a pretty hilarious story, and it’s great that Inez went on to play with the likes of Heart, Black Label Society and Slash’s Snakepit. Despite the end of Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne is still touring, having recently played the eclipse, his song “Bark at the Moon” during its full form.
