Metallica are the undisputed kings of thrash and now guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo have become the kings of trash! The two recently teamed up with San Francisco Giants pitcher Jeff Samardzija to help make the city’s shores a bit tidier.

The effort was made with the band’s partnership with the Surfrider Foundation as they worked together to remove litter from San Francisco’s Ocean Beach. With orange buckets in hand, the two musicians and the Giants pitcher spent a sunny day giving back to their community.

The Giants tweeted out a split photo of everyone working together to clean up Ocean Beach, which can be seen below.

Metallica have had a long-standing relationship with the Giants baseball organization, whose stadium annually hosts “Metallica Night.” The commemorative day will take place tonight (May 6) where the band will throw out the first pitch and perform the National Anthem. When they announced the fourth annual event, the thrashers stated, “We’ll stick around all night to cheer on the orange and black with all the loyal fans and keep your eyes peeled to spot us participating in some in between inning action.”

Proceeds from ‘Metallica Night’ will be distributed between the Surfrider Foundation and Amnesty International.

Hard at work on a long-awaited follow-up to 2008’s Death Magnetic, Metallica fans are hoping the new record, which Lars Ulrich said is “mostly done,” will be released this year. No release date has been locked down as of yet, though the band has indicated the album will likely be out in 2016 and, if not, then in early 2017. To keep fans satiated, they released remastered version of Kill ‘Em All and Ride the Lightning and offered limited edition box sets as well. An unboxing of the debut record can be seen below.
