It seems impossible that a band with the longevity and popularity of Metallica hasn't played every single corner of the planet, but it's true. The group has revealed in a new posting that they will make their first-ever trip to perform in the People's Republic of China this year.

In a posting at their website, the band states, "It is so rare for us to be able to say that we are visiting a country for the very first time, so this is an extra special announcement for us. After over 31 years of traveling to almost all corners of the world for so many amazing, wild and thrilling adventures, we will finally be heading to China!! We'll be hitting the stage in Shanghai at the Mercedes-Benz Arena on August 13."

Tickets for the special performance will go on sale at 10AM local time this Friday (June 7), though a limited number of tickets are being held for the band's Met Club fan club members. Those who are members who wish to purchase tickets for the show should log into their account at Metallica.com for more information on how to purchase tickets.

Though Metallica are mostly focused on their upcoming 'Metallica Through the Never' 3D film and getting a start on their next studio album, they do have scattered dates throughout 2013. The shows will take the band around the world as they not only have their home country Orion Music + More Festival in Detroit this weekend, but also stops in Denmark, Japan, South Korea and Brazil on top of the newly announced performance in China. Their full itinerary can be seen here.
