Metallica have one of the hottest tours going at the moment with their “WorldWired” trek, which is making its way through North America. During a recent show in the Boston area, they joined with many in the music community in paying respects to the loss of singer Chris Cornell.

Robert Trujillo did the honors for the band, working in some of Soundgarden‘s classic “Black Hole Sun” on the bass just as the group were wrapping up “Halo on Fire.” After the song, both Kirk Hammett and Trujillo took solos, with Trujillo’s “Black Hole Sun” coming in between portions of “I Disappear” and “Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth).” Watch footage of Trujillo’s solo posted on social media below.

The tributes, both written and musical, have been overflowing after the death of Chris Cornell. Members of Stone Sour, Megadeth, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bush, Live, Scott Stapp and more have honored the singer with performances since his death was revealed in the early morning hours of this past Thursday (May 18).

The singer died at the age of 52 in what the medical examiner’s office has ruled a “suicide by hanging.” However, Cornell’s family has stated that the vocalist said he had taken “an extra Ativan or two” which he takes to deal with anxiety, and they’re awaiting toxicology reports to see what role the prescription drug might have played in his death. Recent reports state that the family is planning the funeral service for this coming Friday (May 26) in Los Angeles.
