Metallica's Orion Music + More festival has been one of the highlights of the U.S. festival circuit in recent years, but the band recently revealed that they will not stage the event in 2014.

The group reportedly has a three-year deal to stage the event in Detroit after moving to the city in its second year. However, the Detroit News reports that promoters C3 Presents had the option to withdraw from the deal. The first sign that the event may not happen was Metallica booking dates in Europe for early June, which is typically when the festival is held.

A spokesperson told the Detroit News that the festival may return in 2015, but it's not clear whether or not it would be held in Detroit. Add in the fact that Metallica are spending a majority of 2014 working on their next album and that staging their own festival is more time-consuming than scheduling a typical tour and the decision to skip Orion for 2014 makes more sense.
