One of the biggest concert tragedies occurred earlier this year when a terror attack bombing took place at an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena in May. In the months since, the Oasis track “Don’t Look Back in Anger” has become an anthem for the resilience of the city and the venue as it has made its return to hosting live events. Metallica were cognizant of what the city has gone through and offered a nod to the Oasis song during their show Saturday night (Oct. 28) at the venue.

As can be seen in the tweeted clip from Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, bassist Robert Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett remained onstage for what is described as their “doodle” in the set list, breaking out “Don’t Look Back in Anger” as the fan voices powered through the venue. The two musicians have typically had a segment during their Worldwired tour shows where they’re allowed to solo whatever they want, and “Don’t Look Back in Anger” made the cut specifically for Manchester.

“What a moment,” tweeted Ulrich, adding, “Goosebumps” and a series of emojis and hashtags including #wearemanchester, #westandtogether, #welovemcr, #metinmanchester and #dontlookbackinanger. See the performance below.

Ulrich would also add in another tweet, “Thank you Manchester for your show of perseverance, of unity, of defiance and, ultimately, of love!”

The Manchester Arena re-opened in September, with “Don’t Look Back in Anger” originator Noel Gallagher of Oasis doing the honors. You can see his performance of the track here.

Metallica have a few more dates on their current European leg of the WorldWired tour, which are currently their final dates of 2017. There’s also a one-off show in their home base of San Francisco on Nov. 9 at AT&T Park. However, there is still plenty of touring on the books for 2018. Keep up with all of the band’s tour stops here.
