Rock in Rio is easily one of the most iconic rock and metal gatherings throughout the world. 2015 marks the 30th anniversary of Rock in Rio, so a gigantic headlining act is of top priority. Of course, when it comes to Rock in Rio, that feat is an easy one.

Metallica will headline Rock in Rio Brazil in 2015, and it will be the band's eighth appearance at the festival. Rock in Rio has expanded far beyond Rio de Janeiro, Brazil since 1985. The fest has set up shop in Portugal and Spain multiple times, with the first ever U.S. edition set to take place this year in Las Vegas.

Metallica is already headlining the 2015 Las Vegas-based Rock in Rio fest, but the legendary thrash act is excited to pull double duty this year:

We're very excited that we have been invited to be a part of the original Rock In Rio 30-year celebration by headlining one night during the festivities taking place September 18th - 27th, 2015 at the City of Rock in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This will mark our eighth(!) Rock In Rio appearance, including the upcoming May show in Las Vegas. It promises to be quite the party, as we join a stellar festival line up including Faith No More, System of a Down, Queens of the Stone Age, Slipknot and many others. Tickets will go on sale in April, so keep watching for more info.

As reported earlier, Rock in Rio's Las Vegas stint will welcome Linkin Park, No Doubt, Rise Against, Deftones, Sepultura, Coheed & Cambria and many others spanning multiple genres.

Get pumped for Rock in Rio's sixth takeover of Rio de Janeiro from Sept. 18-27 at the New City of Rock. Tickets will become available in April.
