Metallica will play their landmark 1991 self-titled album in its entirety at Statsfængsel in Denmark, a former prison. The performance is slated for Jun. 6, 2012.

Built in 1853, Statsfængsel served as a prison for high security inmates until closing in 2006. The site now hosts music festivals and other events. The last time Metallica performed at a prison was back in 2003 for their 'St. Anger' video shoot at San Quentin State Prison, Calif.

Metallica will also be performing their self-titled album – also known as 'The Black Album' – at a handful of other appearances throughout Europe starting on May 23 in Oslo, Norway. "I don't think it's going to be too difficult for us to figure out these songs," said a confident Lars Ulrich when Kerrang! magazine asked the drummer if he was worried about re-learning some of the material on the album.
