Metallica have scheduled the first public screening of their upcoming 3D film 'Metallica Through the Never,' which is great news for 'Tallica fans residing in the Golden State.

The first screening will take place at the Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael, Calif. on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7:15PM. It serves as the kickoff for the 36th annual Mill Valley Film Festival, which is an 11-day affair that boasts works from 200 filmmakers spanning 50 countries globally. The mighty M are in good artistic company by being a part of this event.

"We'll all be on hand for a post-screening interview and audience with the founder of the festival and executive director of the California Film Institute, Mark Fishkin," the band said. "We hope you can join us to watch the film, hang out, and talk about 'Through the Never.'"

That's pretty much the equivalent of an engraved invite, so locals that want to go should grab tickets here.

The film, which will fuse concert footage with the plot surrounding Trip, a man on an urgent mission, will land at IMAX theaters 10 days later on Sept. 27 and will then expand and see a wide release at regular multiplexes on Oct. 4.
