Two weeks after the tragic passing of legendary Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman, the band has announced a memorial celebration to honor his legacy. The event will take place at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on May 23.

Hanneman died on May 2 at the age of 49. Despite a battle with necrotizing fasciitis that was apparently contracted from spider bite, the actual cause of death was revealed to be alcohol-related cirrhosis of the liver.

The guitarist was an integral member of Slayer, as he wrote such classic songs as 'Raining Blood,' 'Angel of Death' and 'South of Heaven,' among countless others. Hanneman's legacy in the metal world has been apparent over the past couple weeks as many of the genres top names have paid tribute to him.

The memorial celebration is free to the public, but entrance is based on a first-come, first-serve basis.
