Megadeth’s Nick Menza Left Out of Grammys ‘In Memoriam’ Segment

The 59th Annual Grammy Awards took place last night (Feb. 12) and it ended up being an odd day for metal. Along with a few other mishaps, legendary Megadeth drummer Nick Menza was left out of the Grammys’ ‘In Memoriam’ segment.

Metalheads will surely be talking about the 2017 Grammys for a while. Megadeth finally took home a Best Metal Performance Grammy for “Dystopia” after being nominated 11 previous times without a win. However, the awards gave us an awkward moment when the Grammy house band played Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” while Megadeth walked down the aisle to accept their golden gramophone.

Metallica’s performance of “Moth Into Flame” with Lady Gaga didn’t go smoothly either, as James Hetfield’s microphone remained off until the song’s second verse, seemingly leaving Hetfield furious as the song’s conclusion.

During the Grammys’ annual ‘In Memorium’ reel, where The Recording Academy honors beloved musicians who have passed away since the previous Grammys, iconic musicians like Prince, Keith Emerson and Greg Lake were included, as were prolific producers, managers, record executives and critics, but Nick Menza was nowhere to be found. However, Menza’s name can be seen on a larger list posted on the Grammy website.

Nick Menza was nominated for seven Grammy Awards with Megadeth during his tenure behind the band’s kit. Check out the Grammys’ ‘In Memoriam’ video above.
