"Them shits are good, ain't they? I am from New York and when we would play New Orleans, we would always be sure and stop at roadside boiled peanut stands. The Cajun style is just so good," said Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor to Noisecreep when we told him that a long time ago, during an interview, bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders on the 'Leviathan' album cycle, Sanders suggested boiled peanuts as a quintessential Southern delicacy.

Dailor was relaxing in a hotel in England during our chat and excused himself to get his lunch, which was British pizza. No wonder this interview made us hungry.

Dailor may actually hail from upstate New York but he is pretty much a Southerner now, by his own admission, given the fact that he has resided below the Mason-Dixon line for some time.

"When you are a kid, you have no concept of the South other than stereotypes of hillbillies and rednecks, when you don't live there. I live in Atlanta now and I'm a bit of a Southern convert," he said. "I've embraced the culture, since it's much more laid back. The food is awesome, like soul food and jerk fried chicken are great. The Northerner in me, though, remains a hockey fan. I played hockey for eight years when I lived in upstate New York. I played defense and right wing. I was a [Buffalo] Sabres fan growing up, but I am trying to be an Atlanta Thrashers fan now."

Mastodon's 'Crack the Skye' is in stores and crushing craniums now.
