Mastodon have just announced that they are in the studio with producer Mike Elizondo where they are finishing the recording of the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2009 album, 'Crack the Skye.'

Elizondo is known for his work with everyone from Eminem and Dr. Dre to Fiona Apple and Maroon 5. The band has revealed two track titles from the forthcoming, as yet-yet untitled new record and they are 'Blasteroids' and 'All the Heavy Lifting,' so there is a little info to satiate your metal appetite. Mastodon's latest and greatest is expected sometime later this year.

One the quartet wraps the recording sessions in their native city, they will spend their summer in Europe playing festivals. Oh, to be a rock star.

The Mastodonians will get their grunge on on July 30th when they play a one-off gig at The Gorge in Seattle on July 30th with Soundgarden, Queens Of The Stone Age and Meat Puppets.
