Mark Lanegan will kick off a world tour at the Troudabour in Los Angeles Oct. 4 in support of his new covers album, ‘Imitations,’ (due out Sept. 17 on Vagrant Records). The U.S. leg ends Oct. 15 at New York’s Gramercy Theatre, before the Washington native heads over to Vienna to begin his five-week tour of Europe and the U.K.

Lanegan, who released his first solo album, ‘The Winding Sheet,’ back in 1990 when he was still in Seattle rock band Screaming Trees, released his seventh solo studio album, ‘Blue Funeral,’ just last year.

‘Imitations’ was recorded earlier this year and consists of 12 covers: ‘Flatlands,’ ‘She’s Gone,’ ‘Deepest Shade,’ ‘You Only Live Twice,’ ‘Pretty Colors,’ ‘Brompton Oratory,’ ‘Solitaire,’ ‘Mack the Knife,’ ‘I’m Not the Loving Kind,’ ‘Lonely Street,’ ‘Elégie Funèbre’ and ‘Autumn Leaves.’ Fans can check out the full version of ‘I’m Not The Loving Kind’ here.

“When I was a kid in the late '60s and early '70s, my parents and their friends would play the records of Andy Williams, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Perry Como, music with string arrangements and men singing songs that sounded sad whether they were or not,” Lanegan says in a statement about the album on his website.

“At home, my folks were also listening to country music, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, George Jones and Vern Gosdin were some of our favorites. For a long time, I’ve wanted to make a record that gave me the same feeling those old records did, using some of the same tunes I loved as a kid and some that I’ve loved as I have gotten older. This record is it. ‘Imitations.’”
