Machine Head Plot Return to the Road After Singer’s Surgery + More News

Steve Thorne, Redferns

After being forced to miss a total of nine dates on their tour due to frontman Robb Flynn‘s emergency hernia surgery, Machine Head will be returning to the Dethklok, All That Remains, and The Black Dahlia Murder tour for the Nov. 24 date in Portland, Oregon as expected. What a warrior that Robb Flynn is.

Flynn says the experience “totally sucked balls,” but he is “feeling stronger now, especially after “a heavy listening schedule of Accept‘s “Balls to the Wall,” AC/DC‘s “Big Balls,” hell, I even found time to record a cover of Soulfly‘s “Eye for An Eye,” with the lyrics changed to “Guts in the Nuts.” Guts in da nuuuuuuts, guts in da nuts, in da nuts, in da nuts.” We’re glad you are better, Mr. Flynn. Memory lane time, people! Members of The Sword and Darkest Hour are playing with the bands that launched their careers – Recover, At All Cost, Pack of Wolves and Employer, Employee- and reuniting for one night only this December in Austin, Texas at Red 7. The show is called “Party at the End of the World’ and it takes place on Dec. 21. Krum Bums and Spiritual Wives will also perform.

All the bands had cult followings when they were active, and were influential for young Austin artists. “These bands pushed the limits of Austin’s music scene during their time, and sadly, weren’t appreciated until after they had disbanded,” says Red 7 Manager Joaquin Ramirez, who put together the lineup.

Some history: Members of Recover went on to form Young Love, who released two successful albums on Island/Def Jam Records, and their drummer, Jimmy Vela, now plays with The Sword. Mike Carrigan of At All Cost is now touring the world with metal overlords Darkest Hour, and Trey Ramirez of At All Cost and Pack of Wolves has teamed up with Jason Reece (…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead) to form Spiritual Wives.

Visit Red 7′s website to listen to music from each band performing at the show. Remember, this is the venue that hosted At the Drive-In’s first reunion show and a secret Green Day gig. [Via Press Release]

Slayer
are merchandising masters. They’ve not yet achieved a Kiss-like level of merchdom, but they are getting close with their U.K.-only “ugly Christmas sweaters,” which are so ugly they are actually cool. The design features pentagrams and skulls, on an ugly, woolen fabric. See ‘em here.

Want to know when to expect new DevilDriver material? It’s looking like fall of next year, which is the perfec tme and setting for them. The band, now signed to Napalm Records in the U.S., will record this December, with Dez Fafara laying down vocals in January. “The record is sounding really killer,” Fafara said. “I’m really happy with the songs so far, it’s just real groove heavy.” [Loudwire]

Bieler Bros. Records has signed Nashville’s Bullet Saints and has debuted their single “Hellbound,” featuring Virus and Tripp from Dope and Twisted Method, respectively. Sound too good to be true? Well take a listen to the song below.

But first, here’s what label president Jason Bieler had to say: “In a day and age where there are no real rockstars anymore…these guys come along and are so unapologetically over the top that we knew this would be something special. Plus at the root of it, is a great rock song.” Click below and listen for yourself!” You heard the man. Listen for yourself, people!
