Landmine Marathon’s ‘Sovereign Descent’ Isn’t Inspired by Kidney Stone

When it came time to record 'Sovereign Descent,' Landmine Marathon's new album for Prosthetic, vocalist Grace Perry and her bandmates weren't sidelined by any lost hard drives or power outages that threatened the album's completion. In fact, when compared to past Landmine Marathon recording sessions, this album's process was a day at the beach, with low humidity, a cloud-free sky and plenty of surfable waves.

"Thankfully this album was definitely the smoothest recording experience so far," Perry told Noisecreep. "I remember there was one split recording we did with a band called Scarecrow that was the absolute worst. We only had one day to do vocals and of course I end up having a f---ing kidney stone. It was the most brutal pain I have ever felt in my life, and I have never screamed harder on any album."

Kidney stones?! Those who've suffered that fate claim nothing is more agonizing on the body. Looks like Miss Perry turned that pain into something productive.

'Sovereign Descent' is out March 16.
