Krisiun Detained in Bangladesh, Authorities Cancel Sold Out Show
As Brazilian death metal acts Krisiun and NervoChaos arrived in Bangladesh ahead of their sold out May 9 show together in the country’s city of Dhaka, both groups were detained for over 10 hours after being approached by authorities at the airport. The concert was then canceled by authorities, leaving the two groups to nix four upcoming dates on their tour as well.
Both Krisiun and NervoChaos offered updates on their respective Facebook pages (posts below), detailing the situation. NervoChaos began by thanking the Brazilian consulate in Dhaka and described the “unpleasant” experience, stating, “We were victims of a great misunderstanding and experienced more than 10 hours of pure prejudice and misinformation.”
The trio went on, “As soon as we landed at Hazrat Shahjala International Airport in Dhaka at dawn on the 9th, we were approached by security officers while we searched for our luggage. We had our passports withheld, without any explanation, in an extremely conservative country. The event was canceled and the visas we obtained at the embassy of Bangladesh in Brazil, totally disregarded.”
Efforts made by the Brazilian consul and his surrounding team eventually cleared the group and a report by Uol states that both bands were released in time for the show, but authorities had canceled it. The outlet also reported that NervoChaos frontman Lauro Bonometti had said that both groups were being labeled as “Satan bands” and that “local religion is extremely radical,” but the statement is no longer on his Facebook page as cited in the report.
In light of this situation, Krisiun went on to state (post below), “Unfortunately due to mentioned events, the shows in Mongolia, China, Vietnam and Malaysia are canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and hope to return in the near future.”
Rather than recapping the experience, Krisiun expressed their “big appreciation and respect for the metalheads in Bangladesh” adding, “We know it’s not their fault the show got cancelled here today.”
Clearing the air, they declared, “We are not against any religion, political view, or have any prejudice against anyone, it’s not the matter here. We don’t want to see our big metal family worldwide fighting against each other, The world suffer with so much problems nowadays and metal set us free and make us strong!”
This is not the first time we’ve seen metal acts detained around the world as Behemoth were infamously detained in Russia, dealing with horrendous conditions while being held by authorities. The group has since been banned from the country.
