Iron Maiden's 'The Number of the Beast' as Christmas No. 1?

When you think Christmas music, Iron Maiden's 'The Number of the Beast' probably isn't the first song that comes to mind. But an organized effort has begun to get that song to the top of the U.K. singles chart for Christmas.

A similar effort last year got AC/DC's 'Highway To Hell' all the way to No. 4. It's become a holiday tradition of sorts to try to game the British singles chart and the Christmas chart-topper each year in the U.K. comes with a certain amount of prestige. Back in 2009 Rage Against the Machine's 'Killing in the Name,' originally released in 1992, topped the chart.

When it was released in 1982, the album 'The Number of the Beast' topped the U.K. album chart. The title track peaked at No. 25 on the singles chart. You can bet on almost anything in the U.K., and bookmakers are giving odds on whether 'Number of the Beast' will make it to No. 1 for Christmas.

After starting at 50/1, the odds are currently down to 8/1, giving the song a pretty strong chance of getting to that top spot. According to the 'Iron Maiden for Christmas No. 1' Facebook page, one bookmaker puts only Band Aid 30 and the 'X Factor' 2014 winner ahead of Iron Maiden.
