In This Moment Share New Song + Lyric Video for ‘Roots’

It’s been a pretty great couple of months for In This Moment fans. We learned of their upcoming album Ritual back in May, after the band teased it via their song “River of Fire,” which they had been playing at shows. Fans were also treated to their new video for the huge song “Oh Lord,” packed full of metallic-blues goodness, with singer Maria Brink at the top of her game. Their previous album Blood also saw recognition from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), as it was awarded a Gold certification along with its title track. Things are only getting better, with a brand new In This Moment song and lyric video for their track “Roots.”

The song is a pretty great album track, with Brink’s vocals moving back and forth between atmospheric and aggressive with a remarkable ease. Industrial electronics bite down on the track before it explodes into its anthemic chorus, lyrics playing with the metaphor of dark, moonlit trees as well as her ties into the metal scene at large.

Ritual is shaping up to be one of the band’s best to date, bringing forth a steady hold on numerous different genres, illuminating each musician’s best aspects. The record will be available July 21 from Atlantic Records in partnership with Roadrunner Records. It’s available for pre-order both on its own, and with a variety of merchandise bundles. Elsewhere on the disc, listeners will hear other wonders like a duet between Brink and the legendary Rob Halford of Judas Priest, a new interpretation of Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight” and much more.

Guitarist Chris Howorth is just as excited for the album, saying “It’s different and cool and I think it’s a different step for us but that I think our fans are really gonna like. Stylistically, I think we went a little bit more raw, you know — like, not so much campiness like ‘Sex Metal Barbie.’ Not that there was anything wrong with that — we’re always trying to experiment and do something different — but it’s more serious, I guess, and a little more stripped down. There’s still electronics and stuff, and it’s still In This Moment, but it’s a little more stripped down, I guess, and maybe swampy and bluesy a little bit in certain elements, but still metal, you know, still us.”

You can see the lyric video for “Roots” above, and check out the band’s tour dates below, featuring shows with Motionless In White, Avenged Sevenfold, Starset, Papa Roach, Vimic and Little Miss Nasty.
