Helix’ Brian Volmer, Coney Hatch’s Carl Dixon and Lee Aaron are among the Canadian hard rock and metal musicians from the 80s and 90s that have joined forces for a collaborative EP whose release will be celebrated in Toronto Oct. 26 at The Phoenix Concert Theatre.

The EP -- for which they are trying to raise funds through Pledge Music -- will be titled ‘Metal On Ice: Tunes From Canada’s Heavy Metal Heroes.’ Joining Volmer, Dixon and Aaron will be Headpins' Darby Mills, Nick Walsh of Slik Toxik and Russ Dwarf of Killer Dwarfs.

Hosting the evening, which features a storytelling segment, is former MuchMusic VJ Christopher Ward, now a top-selling songwriter whose biggest hit was 'Black Velvet' for Alannah Myles. The musical director for the evening is Sean Kelly, who used to rock out in Crash Kelly and played bass in Helix in 2009 before joining Nelly Furtado’s band.

The ‘Metal on Ice’ consortium is offering a variety of items with each pledge: $10 for a digital download of the EP to $500 for a Kramer guitar and assorted autographed goodies. With two weeks left, the drive is 67 percent of the way to their goal.

“Here at PledgeMusic, we’ll be sharing behind the scenes footage from the studio while these songs get recorded, as well as rough mixes and pics from the sessions,” it states on the site. “This project will be your portal to the music as it’s being created and the delivery service for when the music is completed -- available to you before it goes anywhere else.”
