Guns N’ Roses have just shared a double dose of important band news. Longtime keyboardist Dizzy Reed reveals that Guns N’ Roses are taking an open-ended break which may last until next year. Additionally, he goes into detail about the work GN’R are putting into their next album.

Guns N’ Roses just completed their second residency in Las Vegas, performing a total of nine shows at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. With their commitment fulfilled, it looks like GN’R will be kicking back for a break. But the band is definitely not calling it quits, as was erroneously reported early this year.

“So much of that crap gets out there, you can’t believe any of it,” Reed tells Billboard of the retirement rumors. “At this point, having been in the band for so long, nothing surprises me. When I hear things like that I immediately dismiss them until I hear further.”

Reed adds, “Guns are definitely taking some time off, but we’ll see. I’m not sure if we’re gonna be doing anything else this year. Hopefully we will, but definitely next year. We can’t stay away too long.”

As for the band’s follow-up to ‘Chinese Democracy,’ which has been reported to be perhaps the most expensive album ever made, Reed gave an interesting update on the inner workings of GN’R.

“We’ve all been handing files back and forth to one another in various combinations,” Reed says — but that’s on top of other material from the ‘Chinese Democracy’ sessions. I think a lot of it is either finished or close to being finished — it’s just a matter of picking which songs and where and when and in what order. And if there’s other things that come up that are worthy enough to add to that, then that’s gonna happen, too.”

Furthermore, Reed doesn’t want to give a window of time for the release of GN’R’s seventh album. “I gave up on that a long time ago, with the last record,” Reed says. “It’ll come out when it comes out, when it’s ready.”

In other Guns N’ Roses news, the band just released ‘Appetite for Democracy 3D: Live From the Hard Rock Casino – Las Vegas’ on DVD and Blu-Ray. To order the experience, which can be viewed in both 2D and 3D, click here.
