Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, featuring members of the Dillinger Escape Plan, Mastodon, Alice in Chains, Dethklok and the Mars Volta, are nearing the release of their debut record, Broken Lines. With the buzz ever-increasing, the band has released a music video for the song "Crucifixion" (seen above).

Given a grainy, black and white hue, the music video volleys between shots of the band playing in an empty room and footage of periods of civil unrest throughout history up to the present. During the bouncy opening riff, clips of police discharging weapons in heavy crowds, protest marches, flaming cars, officers in riot gear, bombs dropped from fighter jets and even shots of Donald Trump on his Presidential campaign contrast the band's trance-like state.

The group is made up of Ben Weinman (the Dillinger Escape Plan, guitar), Brent Hinds (Mastodon, guitar), William DuVall (Alice in Chains, vocals), Pete Griffin (Dethklok, bass) and Thomas Prigden (ex-the Mars Volta). Formed in 2012, they didn't secure the final lineup until this year when they named DuVall the singer in mid-February.

Speaking with Daniel P. Carter, Weinman said, “This band has been the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life. Many times I considered just giving up on it because it just seemed like it wasn’t meant to be. From the very start it was something that was just supposed to be fun and kind of casual, so, in essence, even if it didn’t work out that would have been fine. For some reason Brent and I kept just wanting to continue to try to find the right kind of chemistry to make this happen and William actually was the first guy we ever talked to about singing with this project when it was just me and Brent, interestingly enough.”

Broken Lines will be out Sept. 23 through Weinman's own label, Party Smasher Inc. Pre-order the album on Amazon or digitally through iTunes. Giraffe Tongue Orchestra will be making their live debut at Reading and Leeds festivals in the U.K. and will hit the U.S. for a small run towards the end of the year.

Look out for Ben Weinman and William DuVall on an upcoming Loudwire Podcast.
